About Interactive Theater

The traditional exhibition business has not seen significant changes in over 100 years. As the exhibitor evolves from physical to electronic infrastructure, opportunities to entice, communicate and entertain their audience will evolve. No longer will entertainment opportunities be only limited to the exhibition of feature films. Leveraging digital media and communications, the exhibitor will be able to bring the audience directly into the picture.

One example of the changing landscape of exhibition is Interactive Theater. Interactive Theater incorporates a wide range of opportunities. It can take the form of gaming events where the audience takes part in tournament competition. Through electronic communications channels, audiences in different parts of the city, country or world can challenge each other’s skill. The interactive opportunity can also allow the audience to make real time decisions about how content is structured. Decisions like changing the outcome of a story or the camera angle of an interactive sporting or concert event provides an entirely new and exciting audience experience. Taking it further, this new infrastructure can allow the audience to communicate with their favorite stars, sports figures or musicians. This is accomplished by using standard television production techniques where the audience can communicate with whomever is featured on screen. Similar to a live talkshow, audience members can ask questions, get advice or interact with people who were completely inaccessible to them before. Imagine what this could bring to the premiere of a new movie, half time at the Super Bowl or backstage at a concert. Through the power of digital media, the theater experience will forever be changed.
